RE: If bail out passes and works
Well, looks like the stock market is going to tank anyway.
Long lasting recession in the works.
Homeless ranks swelling.
More foreclosures coming.
More banks going under.
Jobless numbers set to rise dramatically.
Lots of small and medium size industries going bankrupt.
Some local and state governments will need bailout.
ETC, etc.
But I think the bailout is going to work.
At least we will be able to save the bloated big money connected banks.
WHEW! I was worried for a while, but once again our glorious leaders have showed their true colors and stepped up to the plate. ;)
I agree - however as I understood it, they aren't getting a "reduced mortgage" - just a reduced monthly payment - but that they will have to still pay the entire amount - just in a monthly amount that they can make. I don't think they are getting the amount they owe reduced. I'm going to have to see if I can find that article and see what it says. Thinking maybe on a case by case basis? Some people were fine till a medical emergency came up, got behind 2 months and foreclosure started because though they could make the monthly payments after the fact, they were behind 2 months because of an illness. Been there illness wise - racked up over $25,000 in less than 6 weeks and at the end of 4 months it was up over $50,000 in medical bills. Will look and see if I can find something about it.
And made sure there was enough pork in the bail out bill to please everyone BUT the general, normal, middle class taxpayer.
Did hear this morning that BofA, who bought Citibank/citigroup (?) is going to adjust their (citibanks, not BofA) sub prime mortgages to a rate that people can pay and stay in their homes instead of foreclose on them. Seems to be more smart that way - as they will get $$$ coming in to the mortgage owed, which pays down the principal eventually which will allow a refinance in the future once they are no longer "upside down" and keeps people in their homes, off the streets and vandalism and empty homes from just sitting there uncared for. Glad SOMEONE is using SOME common sense in the situation.
The flip side of those who will get bailed out by rec'ing lowered interest rates on their mortgages are the people who lived within their means and who sacrificed every month to pay their house payments. This really sends out the wrong message unless there was some type of condition attached to this; which I don't believe there is.
The last I had heard, which was several days ago, the package included two options; one was to reduce the amount owed by the borrower, the other was to reduce their interest rates to a lower percentage. Based on your post, it appears they went with option number 2.
My heart goes out to anybody who's in danger of losing their home due to illness and medical expenses, BUT the majority of those affected by the subprime problem didn't have medical reasons for their inability to pay their house payments. The problem was these people wanted a home, they had nothing to put down on the house, the bank loaned them the full purchase price, and in some cases even loaned them above that amount so the borrower could improve the property. Many of these borrowers used ARM loans, and when the rates went up they couldn't afford the payment and the house went into default. The borrower walked away losing nothing, and b/c home prices have deflated the bank couldn't resell it for what was owed on it.

RE: Dog diabetes
Has your vet has shown you the results after running a glucose curve? After rec'ing the insulin shot the blood sugar usually will be in the normal range (around 100). Every 2 hours they'll run another check and slowly the blood sugar levels go higher. Shortly before the next shot is due, most often, the blood sugar levels are elevated beyond the safe range. Once the shot is given the glucose levels go back down again. The goal is to keep the glucose levels in the 100 to 200 range to avoid stressing the system, which can lead to organ problems and cataracts. We've had two mini's who were diabetic, and would give the insulin as close to 12 hour intervels as possible.
I'm sure Dr. Doug can answer this a little better than I did. Hang in there, in the beginning it feels so overwhelming but once you adopt a schedule it'll become very routine. Hugs sent to you and your furbaby.
RE: Pet death question
This thread is so sad. I send a huge cyber hug to each of you who has lost a much loved furbaby. They will always have a special place in our hearts.
RE: Pet death question
We were 4 hours from home, at a teaching veterinary college clinic, when our dog passed away from a sudden illness. We left him there and the clinic staff handled the arrangements; they were very professional and offered our family much comfort during a very stressful time. His ashes arrived roughly 2 weeks later via UPS in a very pretty box along with a card. The long ride home was very difficult but IMHO would have been much more emotional had we brought him home with us that day.
As far as continuing a trip after suffering a loss, I guess it depends on the person, the circumstances (long or sudden illness), the relationship with that pet and the purpose of the trip.
RE: Is a fifth wheel easier to tow than a travel trailer?
We previously had a 24 ft. TT and dreaded every passing semi or breeze. We now have a FW and it tows so much easier to the point of almost forgetting its back there at times.
Our TV is a 4x4, which we needed since we store our FW at our home, which is on an incline.
RE: GSD's are the best and smartest breed of dog.
Hey, Schnauzers are smart too, they just tend to conserve their brain power. As our licence bracket says "My schnauzers can lick your honor student!" :B
RE: POLL: Weather Protection for RVs
we use #2 which protects our 5'er from acorns, leaves, branches, heavy rain and hail. The carport corner braces give the birds a neat place to build their nest too.....doing our part to help mother nature! :B
RE: Look what I found yesterday!
Zelda is a cutie and very smart to know exactly the house to visit! I loved the picture of your son with the two pups; his big smile is worth a million bucks.
RE: things not to feed to dogs
I also had heard that avocado's are bad for cats and dogs but yet there are natural foods that contain avocado that have been around for years and years and years with no ill effects. The worst is gluten in animal food of any kind be it wheat or corn. That's what caused a lot of the animal deaths in the food recall IIRC.
In doing research as I feed Avoderm by Breeder's Choice - a natural holistic food with avocado's, I came across this. I'm not advocating avocado's one way or another - just food for thought:

Every part of the avocado is dangerous for pets thanks to a toxin named persin, according to the ASPCA.
The animal-advocacy group says, "The primary concern in dogs is with gastrointestinal irritation, including vomiting and diarrhea. Typically, these effects are seen in dogs who have scavenged on significant quantities of fruit or branches.
"Birds and rodents appear to be particularly sensitive to avocado, and ingestion can result in respiratory distress, congestion, fluid accumulation around the heart and even death."
I think the toxicity is due to animals eating large quantities of avocado's all at once - i.e. - from the ground in the back yard. Also of concern to the ASPCA is the avocado pit as the pit is a "ball" to the dog and many dogs have swallowed it causing blockages.
It's a tough on the avocados. I'm still researching. Not much out there definitive that's NOT from a dog food company looking to make a buck.
Hey Dream...hmm, researching canine food? Are you thinking about adding a dog to your famiy? :W
Absolutely not! Had one, had to adopt it out. then got bit by neighbors dog - now deathly afraid of dogs. No longer allowed to have a dog (very long story - 3 years in the making).
The avocado thing is for both dogs AND cats and i'm researching the avocado thing because the all natural holistic food I feed our new kitten has avocado's in it so i'm trying to pull apart the false from the truth and find out exactly what is up with avocados and animals!
I saw the title and I guess i'm bored or something but was interested in what was bad for dogs. Thought turkey was but it turns out it's turkey skin/fat that's bad for dogs and was just curious as many items bad for dogs is also bad for cats. Saw the avocados on the list and it went from there. :S
Yeah, I remember you've mentioned the situation regarding your dog biting the landscaper/lawsuit/rehoming your dog. Thought maybe you were getting the itch (bad pun) to enter the canine world again.
Yep, turkey skin is a big no no for doggies; and I remember reading how vets usually see a jump in cases of pancreatitis after Thanksgiving.

RE: Which Fifth Wheel to buy?
I can't comment on the other brands since we have no experience with them; but we own a Cameo and are very happy with it.
RE: passed up the bighorn
Check the tires that come on the Carriage. They are now using tires that are made in China, at least when we looked at one six months ago. Our previous trailer was a Carriage and never gave us a problem.
Don
Carriage no longer uses the Tow Max tires and switched to Duro tires last fall. I haven't heard of any complaints with the Duro's.
RE: Wonder why warranties are so short??
I know Jayco, Crossroads, & Carriage offer a 2 year; and Nuwa offers an 18 month. Which other companies offer a warranty beyond one year?
RE: Where do you buy your Advantage Flea Control
Don't know if you have a co-op near you (a store which sells animal feed & agricultural products). We purchase our Frontline there at a much lower cost than from our vet.
suggestions on nail grinders
Has anyone used a nail grinder on their dogs, what brand is it and were you satisfied with how it operated?
We're looking for a nail grinder, specifically 2 brands; one is the corded Oster and the other is a Dremel. Since our dogs are smaller (20 pounds) has anyone tried the Might Mite (by Dremel)? How long does a sanding belt last on average? How loud are the grinders? And lastly if your grinder is battery charged, how often does it require a new battery?
Thanks bunches!!!
